We recently updated and remodeled my husband’s gym down in San Diego. We brought in new equipment, finally finished the bathroom, and a whole new vibe all around.
The space looked incredible, and I agreed an open house to invite clients from the past and present to check out the upgrades was a great idea. I just wasn’t prepared when Joe set the date for barely a month away.
Since I have no idea how to keep things minimal, I instantly got started on curating every little detail for the party. And getting the Cricut hot and ready for some work.
I knew I’d want everything with the gym’s branding, so any new potential clients that showed up wouldn’t be able to forget us. T-shirts were also a must, so Joe could easily be identified as a trainer and owner. Even though he usually avoids being referred to as owner.
It’s crazy to me that Cricut sales most colors in only 2ft long rolls, but luckily, — like everything else in life — Amazon sells much longer heat transfer vinyl for cheaper than Cricut.
I was also able to get some blank shirts off Amazon, that ended up being amazing quality and soft fabric. So great, Joe still wears the shirt to work despite cringing every time he remembers it says owner on the back.
I also wanted gift bags for everyone to be able to take home, that we could include a business card inside, along with some merch and a few fitness related snacks.
Of course, I could have just used a plain gift bag, but that simply isn’t me, so I designed a sticker (using vinyl and a circuit) with a little kettlebell and Fitness Republic logo. And a pun. Who doesn’t love a good pun.
And for pretty cheap, I was able to get a pack of drawstring backpacks that were easy to add a logo to with the same iron-on I used for the shirts.

When making welcome signs on the clear acrylic (I have the 18×24 size), I always make sure to use removable vinyl, so I’m able to reuse it for other events too. I’ll break my design down into sections that are easy to piece together, so I’m able to fill the sign instead of being limited to a 12×24 design on the Cricut mat. So in this case, cutting out the words together, but separately doing the arch and lines in 3 additional cuts.

The day of, I installed a massive ballon arch over the door. I used two packages of grey balloons to create the base and added in pops of color using the smallest aqua and dusty blue balloons I had leftover from a previous event.

Inside, we filled the space with different vendors, including a physical therapist, massage therapist, and even Nektar set up a booth with free samples. We had tables with lots of grab-and-go breakfast and a few boxes of coffee from Starbucks.

We were so blessed to receive so many donated raffle prizes from local businesses that we couldn’t wait for our clients to win. We had such an amazing turn out and had such a blast enjoying and celebrating in the new space!
I’m so proud of Joe for all he has built and accomplished over the last decade! The dedication and attention he gives each individual client is so evident in how they speak of him.
We are so thankful for all the support we have received and continue to receive. And a huge thank you to the vendors that donated their time and services to help make this event possible.
